BLOOD LINE & PRISM DREAM (First postđ)
If youâre reading this, youâre probably wondering why we are highlighting this new product as our first blog post. For those who are interested in the backstory or just curious, we want to thank you for following us.
Our usual starting points for new designs are based on our own perceptions of nature, architecture, and language. We often feel inspired by the symbolism and parallelism behind these subjects.
The above piece, Blood Line, is inspired by our design process of the company logo. Our company name Veseer was born from the combination of two words: Vessel and Seer. Through the process of birthing the name, it felt natural to research the origin and meaning behind those two words.
Twiggy took a reference to her Chinese roots and looked into translations of both words âvesselâ and âseerâ through the original Chinese characters (oracle bone script and bronze script). Both ancient fonts were used as recordings during rituals and ceremonies. It was a way for people to write down their understanding of the world and forecast their perceptions. What caught our eyes amongst all of these ancient Chinese characters is the character of âbloodâ (pictured in the middle above). Oracle bone script depicts âbloodâ, èĄ (xiÄ), as a drop of liquid that falls in a vessel. The vessel, éŒ (dÇng), resembles the Chinese bronze vessels that were produced during the same time period for food storage and ceremonial purposes. (pictured in the right above)
The finding also sparked our curiosity to learn more about the power of blood and what it represents throughout time and cultures. It is no coincidence that almost all old cultures had some form of ritual involving blood as a medium to connect different realms. Blood as a substance is personal and individual, yet it connects us with our lineage and our environment.
When we shopped for the glass to use for Blood Line, we wanted to find stained glass combinations that represent the drop of blood that falls into the bronze vessel. For us, this combination also symbolizes that all time is connected through a medium; the past and present forged together continually towards an unfolding future.
WHAT ABOUT PRISM DREAM?
If Blood Line represents the union of past/present, Prism Dream symbolizes the future.
Besides the use of blood in rituals, different cultures have been recording dreams and interpreting their symbolism for millennia. By choosing colorful glasses and a prism crystal, we want to visualize the feeling of a fluid imagination in that dream state.
